Last night, on the way home from the girlfriends parents house, we saw a guy standin by the road (9:30 at night) with a car on the other side of the road. I stopped to make sure he was alright. He had just hit a deer with his car, he was fine the deer was dead and the car wasnt far behind the deer in its life expectence. When he said he hit a nice 8 point my heart sank, knowing full well it was the buck Danielle and I had watch in the field behind the house the night before. I double checked to make sure the guy and his wife were alright, and told him if the deer was there in the morning I was taking him.
Now this buck was less than 500 yards from my bow stand, the same stand that my brother Zac and I have taken good bucks from for the last 4 years. After the cop and tow truck left I drove down to see if the buck was still in the ditch, it was. I called my dad and asked him what I needed to do to get the buck, legally. Dad said to call the police station and tell them what happened and where I was, who I am and see what they say.
Basically the dispatcher said its yours, I just needed to get it up down to the station and get a kill tag for it. All I needed to hear I drove back with and tried to get the deer in to my truck by myself. NO DICE, I came back home my neighbor was awake so I knocked on his door he jump in the truck and it was all we could do to get this buck in my Ford Ranger, this is about 10:45 at night by now.
Here is the bucks rack.

And another
He would have been a wall hanger come bow season.
Well when I got him home I headed out to the back 40 and gutted him in the light of my trucks head lights....not the first time for that, but the first time with a summer buck.
I skinned him out last night, it was 55 degrees here when I went to bed and 63 when I woke up so hangin him over night didnt hurt any.
I got alot more meat off of him then I thought I would judging by the damage to the car, the only part I didnt get off of him was one rear ham very bruised and I didnt want to mess with it.
Sorry to be long winded but I have been watchin this buck for a few weeks now and just couldnt believe it.
Side note, I think they have the same bloodline. A 10 point I shot 3 years ago from the tree stand I was talkin about
