Just got my Deer Mount back for Archery season 2007 |
Lead | ||
|
Shot this 8-pointer in late October in Tawas during archery season. Most of my mounts are right turn or left turn mounts and I decided to get a semi sneak on
this one.

Who did the mount? From the pictures it looks like a great job. My dad and I always had an ongoing bet, whoever got a 10 pt or bigger first, the other would
pay to have it mounted. Dad is now hunting from that great blind in the sky and I have yet to get a crack at a 10 pt or bigger. Do you see many like this one
around the Tawas area?

I get them done from Nancarrow Taxidermy near Frankenmuth MI......On my property I have a 6-point or better rule and a couple of the neighbors are doing it as
well so some of the bucks slip through the cracks and have a chance to grow another year. Most of the Deer I have shot have been 8-points and bigger on my
property and I take 2 bucks off it every season and also take 4-5 does.

Troy it looks like you would owe me 250 bucks if you hunted my land... I introduced a 15" rule a couple years ago.... Roughly the deer has to be outside the ears when they are flared... This makes most of my friends more selective when harvesting bucks... Now i also have the clause if the bases are as big as its eyes or near and it dont pass the ears its legal... Those deer just wont grow any more... Guess ill let this one slide |

This is a respectable buck for Michigan. It is an accomplishment just to get the neighbors to go 6-point or better. I realize that to ensure shooting a mature
buck it should be 6-point or better as wide as the ears etc. But that would never fly in Michigan.....it is a slow process when it comes to any type of
management or planning in this State.

LOL I hear ya. This Deer hung out at a remote part of my property so he eluded some of the Hero's in my area.....thankfully he didn't wander down the
road and get attracted to Football Stadium lights overlooking a mountain of bait where he would be shot at night with a bow or crossbow

Did you get this deer age checked by the DNR? If so how old was he?

In the tawas area the Deer run a little smaller....this was a 3 yr old. That is a guess by looking at the teeth and watching the deer year after year harvested
in my area.
