Yeah, they normally give us archery hunters a head start and let us hunt the month of sept. then Rifle season opens the 15th of Oct in most areas of the state. I'm thinking about picking up an additional Doe/fawn tag just so i don't have to eat tag soup again this year.

I am curious though why does your season start so early? Is it because your winters are so severe?

Yep Northeast corner of the state.

Alot of them do bed in the grass...but most bed on the ridge and i think you would blow them out trying to get to the treestand....theres about a good 1/2 mile of pasture you would have to walk across to get to the trees.

This is in Wyoming right? Also.....are alot of them bedding in the grass? Can you put a stand in the tree line? Or is it pretty tough because the deer are bedded in the Grass and just pop up out of nowhere? That homestead sounds like a good ambush spot and I am sure they walk right by it all the time.

Heading back up this weekend so hopefully ole freak nasty slips up

That house is a small probably 1 maybe 2 bedrooms...i would say 500 sq ft downstairs......I haven't been brave enough to go up stairs yet as the ceiling as failin in in spots...typical 1890's homestead....still in damn good shape though for being 120 yrs old...i'll try and take some pics of it as well

3rd day was real boring, nothing really moving until near dark. this nice tall 8 came by at almost dark...i had a 30 yard shot but when i drew the contrast between the dark in the homestead and the light outside washed out my pins...didn't want to guess and wound him

Day 2 was pretty uneventful as far as getting any shots off. But there were deer all around the house/blind all day

this is ole 1 horn. he has a weird scar on the right side of his head so i doubt he'll ever grow another horn.

This nice 9 came in to about 42 yards...drew, shot...and he jumped the string....i watched the arrow fly right over his back, missed him by about an inch and a half. he walked back into the trees and came back out about 30 minutes later about 100 yards down from me.

Here's some pics from the opening weekend of Archery

Day one was kind of nasty...temp dropped about 25 degrees and a front moved in...rained most of the day but didn't stop the deer from coming out.

This little guy came about 10 feet from the blind..nice 8 for a young deer.
